Palacios baseball field readied for Asia-Pacific meet

Sports and Recreation Division director, Joe Lizama in an interview on Tuesday said there are things that need to be done in the baseball field and in the past two weeks personnel from DCCA and DPW have been working together to fix them.

The NMI will host this year’s Asia-Pacific Regional Baseball Tournament for Little Leagues’ Junior, Senior, Big and Majors divisions from June 25 to July 6.

The winning teams in this tournament will advance to the World Series that will be held in Maine.

Lizama said the 300-feet portion of the field’s perimeter fence needs to be reinforced because the base of each iron bar is already rusting.

He said DPW building maintenance manager, Sam Babauta and his team are now replacing the rusting bars.

Yesterday, Parks and Recreation personnel continue to enhance the batters’ box and baseline markings of the baseball diamond.

All Star teams from NMI, Guam, Hongkong, Philippines and Indonesia will compete in the Asia Pacific Regional tournament. The defending champion for the junior and senior leagues are the NMI teams.

The DCCA and DPW, Lizama added has also finished putting up the stage for the VIP in the track of field facility as they prepare it for the 2008 Oceania Under 18 and Open Area Championship and 2008 Oceania Grand Prix Series.

They also completed along the track, the 21 poles that will carry the flags of the participating member federations.
