Pingpong highlights Hyatt’s COP

Themed, “Celebrating Our People”, the employees’ fun day also included fishing, soccer, soft ball, badminton and tug of war, according to Budhi Gurung.

He said the annual event aims at having all the employees “recognized for their hard works.”

Over 30 employees competed in the pingpong tournament that kicked off at 9:30 a.m., last Tuesday. There were only eight players who participated in table tennis last year.

Due to bigger number this year, Budhi said they had to use two tables.

He wants to thank Marianas Amateur Table Tennis Association President Steve Lim for donating the second table.

After the three-round elimination on a knock-out basis, eight players entered into quarter final. The players here were Chef Gabrielle Colombo, Dionny from Miyako, Perry from pastry, Nihar from POMEC, Raj from Sand Castle, Joel from Club Elan,Deshman from pastry and Jino from Club Elan.

In the quarter final, Chef Colombo beat Dionny, Perry beat Nihar, Raj beat Joel and Joon beat Deshman.

Only four players were selected for Semi Final: Raj from Sand Castle, Perry from pastry, Chef Colombo from Main Kitchen and Joon from H.R. In Semi Final, Raj beat Perry and Chef Colombo beat Joon.

In the final round Raj beat Chef Colombo by 2-1 in a best of three series.

Raj received the championship trophy for 2009.

All the other rounds were only one game because of lot of players with less time. It took about two and half hours to get the entire match finished.

In women’s team, Risa Kobeyashi from H.R. won the Championship Trophy by beating Mai, 2-1.

There were only seven women who played. They were Ria Kim from Kili, Saru Thapa from Kili, defending champion, Amy lost her title to Saru Thapa, Vangie Sablan from Club Elan and two other players Andy from Isagua and Pola from Housekeeping did not show up for the tournament.
