Priority Care’s Steve King pulls up for a three-point shot during a game in the 2024 R&J Wine and Liquor Inter-Government/Business League at the Ada gym.
PRIORITY Care and PSS are now a step closer to a title shot in the 2024 R&J Wine and Liquor Inter-Government/Business League after eliminating their respective opponents in the first round of the playoffs at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Priority Care blew past the FEDS, 74-56 while PSS overpowered IT&E, 111-89.
Against the FEDS, Priority Care’s Marvin Rabauliman stood at the frontline as he punished defenders from inside the paint with eight points. The FEDS’ Terrence Leung scored four points, and teammates Leo Apelo and Chris Sanchez contributed, but their team still trailed by two possessions, 9-13.
In the second period, Priority Care managed to extend its lead.
Defense was the name of the game as Priority Care capitalized on each defensive stop to create fastbreak opportunities led by Steve King and Ray Agulto, who scored 10 and six points, respectively, for a 35-25 lead.
The FEDS continued to put up a fight, but with only Jeff Che, Apelo, and Sanchez producing points, they fell further out of reach by the end of the third quarter.
The FEDS’ biggest run came during the fourth and final quarter as Sanchez found his range to connect back-to-back treys. However, they just could not cut down the deficit and had to accept defeat, 56-74.
PSS vs IT&E
PSS powered past IT&E, 111-89.
IT&E started strong thanks to Daniel Madreo, who was unstoppable, scoring 12 points. But PSS demonstrated the power of teamwork as Melvin Sakisat and Preston Basa hit several three-pointers in the second period to establish control, 60-45.
In the second half, it was clear that IT&E’s chances of survival were slim to none as PSS shut down Madreo’s output. His teammate Ervin Villarin delivered much-needed points, but they weren’t enough as PSS’ Mi’i Tekopua and John Pineda provided the firepower to secure a blowout victory, 111-89.
