After a brief first quarter appearance, Mina started slow in the second period then, accelerated in the beginning of the second half before leading Star Water’s rally converting 10 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter.
Erwin Gomez and Edwin Santos controlled the offense in the first quarter scoring 10 and seven points respectively to maintain Star Waters’ two-point lead.
Santos reaped fouls in the second quarter and basketed all his four penalty shots, while Dante Olivos chipped in five points to stretch the lead to seven points.
Resty Vergara who also went dormant in the first half blasted from behind the arc in the third quarter.
Buds Camacho rampaged with 13 of his 25 points in the final quarter while Melvin Capalad built the lead in the first quarter and continued the surge in the fourth to tally 25 points in a losing attempt.
DL Cooking Gas 80, Tropical Laundry 77
George De Guzman and Adonis Macoto mounted the rally in the second quarter to power DL Cooking Gas past Tropical Laundry for their 80-77 victory.
With Ronald Delos Reyes firing three-pointers three times and Art Salazar twice, Troplical Laundry went insurmountable in the first quarter.
Although Delos Reyes and Salazar kept sizzling from the outside in the second quarter, DL Cooking Gas kept pace by sharing two-point feats among six of its players.
DL Cooking Gas continued the surge in the third and tightened the defense to limit Tropical Laundry’s scoring hands to Delos Reyes who scored 10 more points.
Delos Reyes fired three more shots from behind the arc to score 15 of his 44 points but the DL Cooking Gas cagers made sure they passed the ball around and took turns in keeping the pace leading to their three-point win.
