Rotarians bowl the night away

Most recently, it was for a night of bowling at the Saipan Capital Bowling Center in Garapan.

About 30 Rotarians and their spouses and friends enjoyed the first social of the year with warm pizza from Bobby Cadillacs.

Twenty two Rotarians and their guests created the night’s bowling teams and cheered each other on as they all tried to reach for the event’s highest scores and other fun awards.

In Game One, Sergeant-at-Arms Steve Jang won with a score of 155.  “It was an easy win.  As a regular bowler, you could see everyone hadn’t been to the lanes in years,” quipped Jang.

Foundation Director and Past President Dennis Yoshimoto followed in second place with a score of 145 and Double Past President David Sablan finished third with 143.

“Steve won by pure luck…I will show him who really knows how to bowl,” said a determined Yoshimoto.

And he sure did by topping Game Two with a score of 186, followed by Past President and International Director Ben Babauta with a score of 178 and Jeff Boyer finishing third with 158.

The heat picked up in the Game Three with the more energetic Boyer finishing with 150 and Jang following with 144 for second and Yoshimoto, not to be undone, finished third with 134.

Sablan and Babauta were the wild cards, but it was not enough to upset Yoshimoto who won with the highest score of 186 and highest average of 155.

“There will be another chance, and when it comes, Dennis will have to watch out for us,” said Sablan.

Rotarians sure know how to compete as they wrapped up the night with other awards.

Top Female Score went to Rotary-Ann Elena Soll with scores of 142, 152 and 131 for all three games, which also won her Most Consistent with Breaking Through Award.

The Lowest Score Award went to Rotary-Ann Adonica Forrester with an average score of 55.

“I was just giving everyone a chance, really.   With Kim as president, I have to be considerate,” she smiled sweetly.

The Top Rotarian and Rotary-Ann Award went to Jeff Boyer and Vinycia Seman.  “I told Laurence that he doesn’t know how to bowl, I don’t know why he even tried,” scoffed Jeff, referring to another Rotarian and Rotary-Andy Tandem Laila and Laurence Boyer, who only finished Game One.

Rotarian and Event Coordinator Laurie Peterka won the Most Consistent Score Award with 130, 121 and 122.

Rotarian Lily Nyugen even won an Award for sending her husband, Jay to compete for her.  “It’s all about teamwork,” said Jay.

“We would like to thank Rotarian Laurie Peterka and Director Mike Tripp for arranging this first social and all the Rotarians who participated.  Also, to all the local companies who gave awesome prizes for our bowlers,” said president Kim Forrester.

The Top Five Average Awards went to Yoshimoto, Soll, Jang, Boyer and Babauta.

The winners received gift prizes from IT&E, Century Insurance, Triple J Enterprises, Shell Marianas, Mike Tripp Productions, DFS Galleria, Marianas Variety, Microl Toyota, and First Hawaiian Bank. (LYB)
