Saipan fighters off to Guam Friday for Pacific Extreme Combat

Ken “Kamikaze” Tanzawa, Darrel “Drailer” Salas and Chris “No Love” Laayug of the Trench Tech-Purebred Saipan team had been preparing themselves in the past few weeks now according to promoter, Cuki Alvarez.

Alvarez said PXC is one of the biggest MMA events in Guam and the Trench Tech, the group that pioneered MMA on Saipan had been sending its fighters there since 2006.

Tanzawa who had been fighting since 2006 defeated Brutal Bryson Sablan via submission during the first round of his latest fight—the Trench Warz 7—The Invasion.

Salas who beat Kill Bill Saures via referee stoppage in the first round of his last fight—Trech Warz 8—Kontra a month ago, could be Saipan’s best bet in the PXC.

His only lost was when he set foot in the cage for the first time. That was during Trench Tech’s inaugural fight Trench Warz 1—Fight Night in November 2005.

After that fight, Salas refused to lose his next three fights. He won in the succeeding Trench Warz eking out a record 3-1 record.

Laayug, one of Trench Tech—Purebred Saipan’s “young guns” is a former athlete who competed in the Micronesian Games two years ago.

An aggressive Trench Tech protégée, Laayug fought three times in five months.

The PXC, Alvarez said came over to Saipan during Trench Tech infancy stage a couple of years ago, to hold a three-event stint through which two local bred fighters—Giovanni Sablan and Jason Tarkong “proved themselves.”

The PXC’s  “Preba Ho” which means “prove yourself” is continuously held by PXC to scout for new amateur MMA fighters in the Pacific.

During PXC exploratory fights, the Trench Tech was already in their third Trench Warz, so there was immediately some kind of camaraderie among the promoters and fighters of the two MMA groups.
