Scheduled games for men and women’s divisions will be played at 5:30 p.m. every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday in a double round-robin format at the newly opened Tan Siu Lin Sports Complex in Gualo Rai.
To encourage more teams to participate, registration fee is only $10 per player.
The organizers are excited to promote this fast-paced and exciting sport on island that requires more ball control and passing in small spaces as compared to a regular football game.
According to Wikipedia, futsal is derived from the Portuguese futebol de salão and the Spanish fútbol de salón (colloquially fútbol sala), which can be translated as ‘hall football’ or ‘indoor football.’
During the sport’s second world championship held in Madrid in 1985, the name fútbol de salón was used. Since then, all other names have been officially and internationally changed to futsal.
