Sankei Sports explores fishing in Saipan

The Marianas Visitors Authority provided a fishing tour for three winners of the fishing tournament “Sanspo Fishing Challenge 2010” conducted by the newspaper last year. The winners were in Saipan this month for a one-day boat fishing tour. They were accompanied by a writer and photographer from the Sankei Sports Shimbun, who will publish a seven-column article on the excursion at an ad value of approximately $71,000.

The SSS has a circulation of 758,000 readers and targets males in their 30s to 60s who are interested in fishing – including active seniors. This publication is sold at newsstands in the Tokyo area.

“The Northern Marianas offers many opportunities for visitors to enjoy boat fishing, whether it be a full day or a half day trolling charter, bottom fishing in the Lagoon, one of our annual fishing derbies, or an extended charter to the northern islands,” said MVA marketing manager Bruce Bateman.

“Sanke Sports Shimbun has had an established readership of avid fishermen since 1963, so it’s an ideal avenue to reach this potential niche market of visitors.”

The group stayed at Mariana Resort and Spa and left the island yesterday. Their fishing tour is also supported by Saipan Sea Ventures/Pelley Boat Charters.
