“The competition takes place this July 6 so we’ll most likely leave on the second,” said Reylynn Sapong in an interview with the Marianas Variety.
The Variety learned that the competition will take place at the Lille Metropole-Villanueva D’Ascq.
The PSS-McDonalds All Schools gold medalist has been entered in the 100m dash event. The Variety also learned that a runner must be 16-17 years old to be eligible to compete.
“I am glad that I was chosen to run and represent the CNMI. They chose me because I’m really hard working,” added Sapong.
When asked when she first started running she said, “ I started running since 2003 in third grade for the All Schools Championships back then. But my first real deal competition was at the 2006 Micronesian Games where I ran in the 400m event and was able to time in at 68 seconds.”
“I love running and it’s cool how it is an individual/team sport. Also, my father used to run. So that inspired me to start running,” said Sapong.
When asked what her goals are for the upcoming competition and what she does to help her attain these goals she replied, “I want to improve my time. So far the best time I have is at 67 seconds in the 400m event. I practice real hard when I’m at the track and I give it my all.”
Sapong reaped several awards in the most recent 2011 PSS-McDonalds All Schools Track and Field Championships garnering gold in the 400m event posting the best time of 1:10.37, 1500m event clocking in at 6:27.96, 4×100 and 4×400 relay medley event timing in at 55.57 and 4:39.31 respectively.
