SDA 8th graders to host Martin Luther King ‘freedom run’

Besides paying tribute to the great civil rights leader, Martin Luther King Jr., the five-kilometer run is also a fundraiser event for the students’ annual class trip, says eighth grade class professor, Sean R. Maycock.

In the past, he said SDA classes have visited the Philippines, Bali, Australia, Palau, Hawaii, Thailand, Singapore, and South Korea.

This year the students hope to visit Japan.  They will spend several weeks learning about the geography, history, and culture of the Asian county before traveling there and learn about the island nation firsthand.

The run will begin at 5:15 p.m. at the Garapan Fishing Base and will end at the Kilili Beach pavilion.

The registration fee is $10 and all finishers will be eligible for prizes at a drawing to be held after the race.

Registration for the run will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

Participants may pre-register at the Saipan SDA School or Saipan SDA Dental Clinic. When the race is finished transportation back to the Garapan Fishing Base will be provided for those who need it.

For more information please contact Sean Maycock or Nicole French at the Saipan SDA School at 234-7326 or 285-3127.
