SHIRLEY’S Football Club clinched the Tinekcha-Awaal (premier) division championship of the Dove Women’s League Spring 2024 by edging the Kanoa Football Club at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville on Sunday.

Their match ended in a draw, 2-2, but SFC earned the title by having a better goal difference than KNFC. Throughout the season SFC scored a grand total of 32 goals and allowed eight for a goal difference of 24 while KNFC scored 29 goals and allowed eight for a goal difference of 21.

In the title match, SNFC started as the aggressors as they set the tone early in the opening half with a constant forward pressure. After nearly 20 minutes of back-and-forth action, KNFC failed to control the incoming offensive, which created an opening for SNFC’s Jeraldine Castillo, who drained the first goal of the day.

Four minutes later, SFC’s Jannah Casarino found the back of the net  to widen their lead, 2-0.

KNFC was about to go into halftime scoreless, but during the extra few minutes of stoppage time of the first half Irish Pagarao slipped a shot to close the distance,1-2.

Throughout the second half, both teams fought hard with a series of exchanges on both ends of the field, but with no goals scored. SFC seemed to have the win in the bag, but KNFC went all out during the extra three minutes of play with Pagarao seizing the spotlight once again by connecting the clutch shot to even the score, 2-2.

With little to no time left for SFC to create a game-winning goal, they settled for a draw, 2-2.
