SIS’ Kaithlyn Chavez battles for the possession against SSHS’ Megan Elayda and Angel Calage during an opening game of the NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League’s girls high school division at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville on Tuesday.
SAIPAN International School outscored Saipan Southern High School, 8-2, in the opening game of the girls high school division of the NMIFA-PSS Interscholastic Soccer League at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville on Tuesday.
SSHS went for the kill as soon as the whistle blew. SIS was overwhelmed by SSHS’ aggressiveness as Rosie Saralu sank the opening goal to give her team the lead 1-0.
But SSHS’ fire was quickly doused by SIS, which unleashed a volley of goals. Irin Chung scored at the 4th minute mark followed by Kaithlyn Chavez and Audrey Castro at the 9th and 14th minute marks. Chavez added another goal at the 20th minute mark for a comfortable 4-1 lead by halftime.
Their lead only grew larger in the second half as SIS continued to control the tempo with relentless pressure. Chavez completed the hat-trick with two goals at the 35th and 43rd minute marks while Castro notched her second goal at the 45th minute mark.
SSHS’ Saralu managed to sneak in a goal at the 47th minute mark, but SIS’s Serin Chung sealed the deal with a goal of her own to clinch SIS’ victory, 8-2.
KHS vs MHS
The game between Kagman High School and Marianas High School ended in a draw, 5-5.
In the first half, KHS’ Pia Ngewakl scored two goals at the 5th and 17th minute marks, but MHS retaliated with three straight goals — one by Tamia Kileleman Hix and two by Rizza Relucio — to snatch the lead at halftime, 3-2.
MHS stayed strong throughout the second half with two more goals delivered by Kileleman Hix and Raven Anderson, but they failed to put a stop to Ngewakl, who scored three goals to secure the draw, 5-5.
