An MHS III player extends for the bump return against SSHS II during an NMIVA-PSS Girls High School Volleyball League game Tuesday at the Marianas High School gym.
SAIPAN International School and Grace Christian Academy notched victories during the opening games of the NMIVA-PSS Girls High School Volleyball League SY23-24 Tuesday at the Marianas High School gym.
SIS defeated Saipan Southern High School in two sets.
In the first set, SIS established dominance with a roster filled with experienced players. The team quickly gained double-digit control as their constant pressure was too much for SSHS to handle.
Haunted by errors, SHSS could barely find an answer while SIS eased their way to claim the first set, 21-9.
Despite a rough start, SSHS returned to the second set as if they were a different team. Their communication and defensive coverage complemented their offensive returns as they went toe-to-toe with SIS and pushed past the game point of 21.
However, SIS’ overall skillset proved crucial in crunch time as they secured the two-point separation to clinch the second set and match victory, 24-22.
GCA vs KHS
GCA, for their part, bested Kagman High School in a three-set battle.
GCA pulled away with a double-digit win in the opening set to gain the upper hand, 21-10, but KHS fought back in the second set and were rewarded for their efforts with a 21-19 win.
In the third and final set, GCA gained control and never looked back to seal the deal, 15-9.
Joining the winner’s circle were MHS III, which took down SSHS II, 21-13, 21-17.
