Sports games fill PHS Awareness Week

Divided into eight teams with students and their team leaders namely, Team Kokau Kokau – Freshmen; Team Captain Brent Melairei, Team Emadech e Fine – Freshmen;Team Captain Lycer Ngernegkoi, Team Red Saints – Sophomore; Team Captain Yuri Kishigawa, Team Black Saints – Sophomore; Team Captain Francisca Skiwo, Team Amazing Grays – Juniors; Team Captain Regina Imetengel, Team Ngar er a Ngeseu – Juniors; Team Captain Sabina Andrew, Team All Stars – Seniors; Team Captain Villiany Thomas, and Team Eleduid – Seniors; Team Captain Dean Terry, they started out their first day on the 16th of March with an opening ceremonies at the open stage followed by the parade of teams from the school to the track and field grounds where the competition begun with obstacle course participated by students, parents, and teachers.

On the second and third day, teams heads out at the open stage once more in the morning to compete for academic games in which they need to their best on English Knowledge Bowl while having a greater understanding of the subject on Social Studies in order to win the games prepared by the Social Studies department of the school. Later that day, participating students were also asked to create extemporaneous speeches with topics chosen from a box in which students are to organize a speech to be conversed in front of spectators. Included on academic challenges are Science obstacle course, Math activity contest, and the very exciting Palauan games. As the these games happen during the morning, sports games continues every day where basketball and volleyball being played at the PHS Spider Gym, while Softball games are played at Meyuns Ball Field.

The Palau High School Awareness week is being supported by the PHS Student Body Association, PHS – Parents Teachers Students Association, MJ Trading and Company, Palau National Communications Company, SHIMBROS, Palau Pacific Resort, Palau Royal Resort, Moylans Insurance, Rock Island Café, and different government offices who have contributed to the success of the on – going program for the students of Palau High School.
