SSHS is overall leader in PSS outrigger

SAIPAN Southern High School leads all three divisions of the PSS Interscholastic Outrigger Race Series SY23-24 after a nearly perfect run during the second race at Kilili Beach on Saturday.

SSHS’ boys performed flawlessly as they reigned supreme in the 500m and 1000m distances.

In the preliminary round of the 500m race, SSHS held the lead throughout the course to finish with a time of 02:45.300.  Kagman High School came in second at 02:53.120 while Marianas High School finished third at 03:00.710.

The final round was a bit more intense as all three teams fought vigorously for control.  In the end, however, SSHS was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 02:48.090. KHS came in second at 02:53.190, and MHS was third at 02:53.650.

SSHS also excelled in the 1000m distance. In the preliminary round, they came in first with a time of 05:53.790. MHS was second at 06:02.580 while KHS settled for third place at 06:05.210.

In the final round, SSHS finished first once again, clocking 05:55.000. MHS was disqualified for knocking down a flag in their second turn, allowing KHS to finish second with a time of 06:12.150.

Overall, the SSHS boys have earned 45 points, KHS is in second place with 19 and MHS is third with 16.

Girls division

The SSHS girls finished first in the preliminary round of the 500m race with a time of 03:11.910 followed by MHS at 03:14.380 and KHS at 03:16.430.

 In the finals, SSHS improved their time as they finished first with a time of 03:07.940 while MHS claimed second place once again at 03:14.200. KHS came in third at 03:31.370.

In the 1000m race, SSHS topped the preliminary round with a time of 06:28.360 while MHS claimed second at 06:38.310, and KHS was third at 07:09.200.

In the finals, SSHS secured the top spot with another first-place finish  at 06:34.700 followed by MHS at 06:46.440 and KHS at 07:29.410.

The SSHS girls team lead the overall standings with 41 points. MHS has 29 and KHS has 10.

Mixed division

In the mixed division, SSHS  finished third in preliminary round of the 500m race with a time of 03:10.270. MHS came out on top at 03:02.550 while KHS was second at 03:04.950.

In the final round, however, SSHS recovered and was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 02:54.250. MHS was second at 02:59.330 while KHS came in third at 03:04.830.

In the 1000m, SSHS was disqualified in the preliminary round for knocking down the flag on the second turn. MHS took the top spot with a time of 06:22.600 while KHS came in second at 06:35.620.

But SSHS bounced back in the finals, finishing first with a time of 06:07.050 while MHS settled for second at 06:22.390 and KHS came in third at 06:49.200.

Overall, SSHS still sits on top with a total of 29 points, but MHS trails closely behind with 26 and KHS is in third with 16.
