SAIPAN Southern High School leads the co-ed high school division of the PSS Interscholastic Outrigger Race series SY23-24 after their girls and boys topped the first of three races at Kilili Beach on Saturday.
The ladies of SSHS set the tone as they dominated the 500m distance, finishing first in both races.
In the preliminary round, SSHS finished strong at 03:25.930. Kagman High School came in second at 03:31.780 while Marianas High School was third at 03:42.050.
The final round was a much more heated battle, but SSHS still clinched first place with a time of 03:26.390. MHS was second at 03:27.710 while KHS was third at 03:37.020.
In the 1000m event, MHS ruled the preliminary round with a time of 06:58.700. SSHS was second at 07:04.690 while KHS was third at 07:54.290.
In the final round, SSHS gained the upper hand in the turns to finish first with a time of 07:00.370, edging MHS, which clocked 07:02.330. KHS was disqualified after knocking down a flag during their second turn.
The SSHS boys, for their part, placed first in both rounds.
They finished the preliminary round with a time of 02:52.450 and was followed by KHS at 03:09.030 and MHS at 03:10.740.
In the final round, SSHS again finished first with a time of 02:23.090 while KHS came in second at 03:13.670 and MHS was third at 03:04.640.
In the 1000m event, SSHS dominated the preliminary round, clocking 06:25.340 while MHS was second at 06:49.330 and KHS was third at 06:50.240.
In the finals, SSHS sealed the deal with another first place finish, clocking 06:17.870. MHS placed second at 06:23.000 and KHS was third at 06:35.510.
In the girls division, SSHS is first place overall with a total of 18 points while MHS is in second place with 12 points and KHS is in third with 5 points.
The boys division is led by SSHS with 20 points followed by MHS with 10 points and KHS with 6 points.
