Storms stop Whispering Palms’ winning streak

The Storms earned quick points in the first set with several overhand serves. Both teams offered quick attacks, with Whispering Palms players pushing to catch up in the scores. The Storms won the first set by 25-18.

A few missed hits cost the Storms their victory during the second set. They shortly led the game by 14-10, but Whispering Palms brought the game to a 24-24 deadlock, thanks to the work of Negahr Rastguiy and Lucy Park.

Rastguiy had the Storms scrambling for the ball with her sharp serves early in the second set. Whispering Palms brought the game to the third set after winning by 24-26.

The Storms endured the third set with handy bump passes, especially with the sun facing their side of the court. At 14-8, Whispering Palms was momentarily saved by Tiger Lee. The Storms earned their winning point after an out-of-bound serve from Whispering Palms.

As sanctioned by the Coalition of Private Schools Sports Association, three other junior varsity volleyball games took place yesterday. Among the matches were: Calvary Christian Academy vs. Saipan Community School, Grace Christian Academy vs. Seventh Day Adventist, and Saipan International School Team A vs. SIS Team B.

Only one junior varsity game will be played today between SIS Team B and SDA.
