THE Kliq recorded a total of 17 homeruns as it dominated the Red Torch, 43-15, in the 2024 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball Association Open League at the Dandan baseball field on Sunday.
The Kliq displayed the power behind their swing in the top of the first inning with Eli Aughenbaugh acting as the spark plug as he connected the first homerun of the day, bringing in first at bat, Ping Santos, along the way. This was followed by a solo homer courtesy of Josenio Alvarez. The fireworks seemed to have stopped but only to fill the bases and set Jun Dela Rosa for a three-run homer before the Red Torch could stop the bleeding and score a run.
The Kliq’s 7-1 lead quickly grew as the rest of the players joined the homerun derby in the top of the second. Ping Santos and Dela Rosa kept the fuel burning with solo homers while Alvarez recorded a two-run homer. Not to be outdone, James Benavente connected a three-run homer, adding seven more runs.
The Red Torch found their voice in the bottom half. The back-and-forth exchange continued throughout the next three innings with the Kliq scoring six runs in the third and six more in the fourth while the Red Torch could only deliver seven after complete innings.
The Kliq sealed the deal in the top of the fifth with 17 runs while the Red Torch were met with three consecutive outs to end the game, 43-15.
In another high-scoring game, the Homies bested Just4Fun, 36-26.
