Tilipao wins Rocky Boys 9-hole tournament

Four handicapped Tilipao fired 37 shots and scored a net of 33. He fired 2 under par 35 as he bogeyed in hole Nos. 2 and 8.

Ed Olopai, also a four handicap was in excess of two shots to earn a bigger net of 35.

John Rebuenog settled for third place as fired 42 and gained 36 net.

Ilopai however won the closest to the pin in holes Nos. 6 and 10.

The Rocky Boys Club was formed when, over drinks and food, Joe Lizama, Bill Kaipat and Henry Rabauliman came up with the idea of bringing former caddies of the Saipan Country Club together relive the nine-hole course that used to the the Whispering Palms Country Club way back the US Navy administration.

The course then became “breeding ground” of Saipan’s top golfers like Jess I. Wabol.

Now the Rocky Boys Club grew to 12 members.

The founding officers of members are Lizama, president; Kaipat vice president; Tars Olopai, secretary; Jordan Kosam, treasurer; Asterio Tawanpiy, handicap chairman and Jess I. Wabol, tournament chairman.    

The other members of the club are Lou Tilipao, John Mettao, Don Fitial, Ed Olopai, Joe Itibus, Ulysses Kapileo, John Rebuenog and Joe Wabol.
