The league, dubbed as the “Ongiall Fast-pitch League,” is scheduled to commence on July 25, 2008 and would run until mid-September.According to Dwight Ngiraibai, President of the Ongiall Association, the initiation of the league is an attempt to actively promote the sport in Palau.Further, organizing a league will set a base through which better athletic sports performance could be honed in preparation for regional games. He further added that when leagues become seasonal, current, accurate, and professional records of players would be kept; thus, making selection of potential players to represent Palau in the regional games more effective and productive.Furthermore, as in any team sport, the league would bring people together to participate in an event, which would provide for opportunities for players – and fans as well – to exercise and socialize on a regular basis.Ngiraibai said that the league is still in its infant stages and a few minor details are being worked out; however, a few things are certain.“All of the games will played at the National Softball Field in Meyuns,” he said, “and all interested teams must register at the Palau National Olympic Committee Office at the Palau National Gymnasium on or before July 15th; and each team that registers into the “Ongiall Fast-pitch league” must pay a fee of $500.”Interested individuals or team are asked to contact Sera Sato at 488-4367 for further details about the league.
