Tinian dominates middle/high school javelin throw

TINIAN Jr./Sr. High School athletes made their presence known in the middle/high school divisions of the PSS All School Track & Field (Athletics) SY23-24, after nearly sweeping the javelin event at the Oleai Sports Complex on Friday.

Tinian’s middle school team members were the first to leave their mark as they topped the U14 boys and girls divisions.

In the U14 boys division, Tinian’s Kymani Nabors seized the spotlight. His first attempt covered a distance of 20.83m while his second attempt, which was his best, was 25.96m. His third attempt was 22.84m.

In second place was Agape Christian School’s Daniel Yang at 25.01m while Chacha Ocean View Middle School’s Gerard Naputi came in third at 23.06m.

Tinian also reigned in the U14 girls division as Ka’isa San Nicolas recorded the farthest throw of 18.35m followed by Tanapag Middle School’s Kyria Ngiraked with 17.53m, and Dandan Middle School’s Kayla Maag with 13.35m.

Tinian continued their dominance in the U18 boys division with Marcial Patio besting the rest with a distance of 39.05m. Saipan International School’s Joab Omari came in second at 35.30m while Tinian’s Bonny Gonzales finished third at 32.29m.

Tinian’s streak finally ended in the U18 girls division, which was won by SIS’ Phoenix Gross who recorded a distance of 20.74m. Tinian’s Karisse Ong finished second at 19.90m while Kagman High School’s Ry’Ahna Qutiano came in third 19.86m.

Tinian earned one more first-place finish, this time in the long jump event with Ysabella Lenteja covering a distance of 4.03 to lead the U14 girls division. COVMS’ Pualani Dela Cruz settled for second place at 3.38m, while SIS’ Aubrey White came in third at 3.13m.

Claiming the U14 boys division title was Ryu Changhwan of Francisco M. Sablan Middle School’s with a distance of 4.92m while DMS’ Austin Camacho and Ethan Sablan finished second and third at 4.76m and 4.25m, respectively.

In the U18 girls division, Saipan Southern High School earned their time in the spotlight with Haani Passi leading the competition with a distance of 4.42m followed by ACS’ Mary Zhu and Joanna Zhang with 4.16m and 3.98m, respectively.

In the U18 boys division, Marianas High School came out on top with Mokyang Kim covering a distance of 5.78m followed by teammate Cody Shimizu at 5.32m, and Kagman High School’s Justin Camacho at 5.19m.
