TEAM Nesian Built is still the team to beat in the Marianas Arsenal 3×3 Series as they bagged their second title win Saturday by trouncing the Net Rippers, 21-5, at the Ada gym.
Team Nesian Built, which consists of Preston Basa, Coby Santos, Douglas Schmidt and Jack Lizama, dominated the game.
After a few attempted shots, Santos finally found his stroke from beyond the arc, sinking three consecutive triples to give his team the lead.
The Net Rippers’ Greg Sablan sank a triple of his own, but the rest of his team struggled to find the bottom of the net.
Team Nesian Built, for their part, continued to expand their lead with Lizama taking care of the inside action while Schmidt added extra firepower from around the perimeter.1
Basa then stepped in and took over the three-point highlights with two additional buckets to further extend the deficit.
The Net Rippers’ Juan Camacho and Jack Aranda contributed a few points but were outscored by Team Nesian Built as Basa’s final three-pointer sealed the deal, 21-5.
Before the championship game, Team Nesian Built nearly suffered a loss but managed to pull through against Hagu Real Hoops, 15-13, while the Net Rippers bested Team Priority Care, 21-12.
Team Nesian Built’s Schmidt said they had prepared themselves for the tournament. “We exercised every day when we had the chance,” he added.
Asked what their strategy was, he answered, “All-out shooting — that’s it. We plan to win all the tournaments this way.”
