After beating TKK2 in the winners’ battle last weekend, Wazzup which is mainly the league’s youngest sluggers had rewarded themselves already the benefit of resting time.
On the other hand, Reap It had to batter its way through Peleliu and TKK2 in the morning games and only had a 15-minute break and considerable amount of stamina that is left, to face Wazzup in the final game.
After Noki Saralu made it to the first base on third baseman’s error and John Terlaje singled, Kyle Kaipat knocked-in a run-scoring single.
Then, Wazzup brought out its best shot from Giovanni Ayuyu’s three-run home run to put up the lead in the top of the first inning.
Terlaje who later won the championship most valuable player, shut out two in the bottom of the second inning to keep Reap It scoreless. His third strike out helped Wazzup stay in the front towards to the sixth inning.
EJ Cabrera fired an RBI triple in the second inning, Kyle Kaipat drove-in a run with his third single over the left field and Saralu helped secure the win with a sacrifice fly to the center in the seventh inning.
Trailing by six runs with only Vince Cabrera driving-in a run with a single, Reap It had to mount a rally in the seventh inning to tie the game.
They however had a long way to go.
With two outs, John drove-in a run with single before Wazzup right fielder, Marvin Kaipat threw Luis out and ended Reap It’s hope come back.
Meanwhile, Payton Sakuma of Peleliu was awarded the regular season MVP. Hitting a total of 29 RBIs, he was also named the RBI champion, and, finishing the league with 1.85 ERA, topped the earn run.
He also tied with TKK2’s Joey Dela Cruz in the home run champion award, both hitting a total of five home runs.
Anson Jones is the season batting champion averaging .639 in 23 to 36 at-bats.
Sky Martin of Red Men topped the double hitter with a total of six and Ben Higgins of Pingelap had the most triples, (6).
Gloyd Martin of Reap It is this season’s strike-out king as he tallied 21 strike-outs.
Peleliu won the pennant championship while TKK2, the pennant runner up.
