Prior to the finals, DES boys stunned Hopwood Junior High School in both sets in the 12-and-under last Friday.
The victory with bigger opponents flexed DES boys’ muscle good enough to take an easy win against Kagman Elementary School during the final game.
DJ Smith, Jeremy Lizama, LJ Hemley, Jonah Delos Reyes, TY Deleon Guerrero and Terson Eina pounded KES, 25-10 in the first set then finished them off, 25-9 in the final set.
A close fight however ensued between DES girls and KagES girls.
Asuncion Reyes, Kaysheana Helgen, Stephanie Espayos, Vanessa Aldan, Isabel Villagomez and Anna Hemley got the first set with a two-point lead only that they had to work harder which they did and beat KagES girls, 25-16.
Whispering Palms’ Joon Ko, Cody Race, Jake Lee, Clay McCullough Stearns, Jae Ko, Christian Miller, Aaron Lee and Tommy Choi defeated Junior Hopwood in the boys 14-and-under while Ilia Corella, Amy Arenovski, Minori Yoshida, Victoria Chentsova, Phalai Frink, Kristina Folta, Raina Klaver and Marin Nakamura beat the Hopwood girls.
Students from private and public schools in high school and elementary participated in the three-day sports fest spearheaded by Division of Youth Services.
