Whispering Palms rules again

WPS, which also had swimmers in the junior high division, completed 33 events overall with Garapan Elementary School in second place at 140 points.

Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School trailed GES with 83, followed by Saipan International (83) and Saipan Community School (46).

Among many of Whispering Palms’ athletes included Melanie Choe, who recorded 1:09.56 in the girls 10-12 50-meter butterfly and 4:23.25 in the girls 200m freestyle event.

Choe joined Gillian Villagomez, Hana Nelson, and Arman Khorram in the mixed 200m freestyle relay to time in at 3:43.64.

In the girls 9-and-under 50m breaststroke, WPS’ Shea Hartig posted one minute and 9.5 seconds to place third below GES’ Kyona Rivera (56.1) and SIS’ Karen Irinaka (1:04.22).

Other swimmers like Sally Lai ruled the girls 9U 100m freestyle at 1:46.19 while Amon McGuire ranked second in the boys 10-12 50m breaststroke with 58.48 seconds.

San Vicente Elementary (32 points), Kagman Elementary (25), Dan Dan Elementary (18), and Mount Carmel School (15) completed the list in the elementary division.

In the junior high category, WPS placed third at 39 points below champion SCS (109) and Grace Christian Academy (43). SIS gained 35 points while Hopwood Junior High School had 16.

GCA dominated the high school division at 70 points, followed by Saipan Southern High School (69), Marianas High School (48), and home-schooled students (31).

Trophies were awarded to the top schools in each category.

Saipan Swim Club, which organized the meet, thanks Kan Pacific, the Northern Marianas Swim Federation, and all participating schools.
