McGraw Hill routs Grillin’, 91-86 for 1st win

Grillin’s Sonny Lerio and Lerio Pagarao were the night’s eventual top scorers with 30 and 28 points, but they alone couldn’t grab the lead they needed.

McGraw Hill claimed the first period, snatching a 24-20 lead. Sablan tallied six of the team’s 24 points with eight from Walter Mendez and Jacob Villagomez.

Lerio and Pagarao however, scored a combined 12 points to drop McGraw Hill to a one-point lead by the end of the first half. Sablan ushered in only one basket after landing a layup past Lerio while James Villacrusis and Kelvin Fitial scored five apiece.

McGraw Hill pulled away in the fourth quarter, leaving Grillin’ behind on eight points from Fitial and five from Gus Palacios. Sablan mustered 15 of his 23 points during the second half, stealing the ball twice from Lerio and once from Rocyl Ritual.

Grillin’ — behind, 72-64 — faced an uphill battle even with Lerio’s late game three-pointer. Aside from Lerio and Pagarao, it was only Hernandez who shot a basket for Grillin’ in the fourth quarter.

10 of McGraw Hill’s 12 players made it to the scoreboard with Fitial and Palacios earning 17 and 11 points, respectively. James Villacrusis, who chipped at Grillin’ in the offense, scored 13 points while Mendez and Manibusan had eight each.

Team McGraw Hill secured the third quarter with a 63-60 lead after back-to-back shots from Sablan, who scored 10 of their 20 points.
