Win Pacific Corp’s Louis Rectitud takes the floater against two defenders during a game against JTM Corp in season 1 of the Ali’i Madflex Sports Summer Youth Basketball Tournament 2024 at the Ada gym on Saturday.
IN a thrilling game, spectators were kept on the edge of their seats until the final buzzer, as Win Pacific Corp. held their ground long enough to outlast JTM Corp, 45-44, in the Ali’i Madflex Sports Summer Youth Basketball Tournament 2024 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium on Saturday.
The first period saw a promising start for Win Pacific Corp, as they constantly attacked the rim to draw a handful of fouls and score from the free-throw line led by Jerik Javier to take the early lead, 13-8.
JTM Corp fought back in the second quarter by tightening their defense and narrowing the gap with teamwork that was spearheaded by Rey Castillo and Carl Sanchez. However, they remained ineffective on the defensive end as Bernard Sabino and Konin McCale kept the fuel burning with four and six points, respectively, to keep Win Pacific afloat, 27-16.
In the third quarter, JTM’s defense started to make their presence known as they shut down most of Win Pacific’s main scorers. However, Win Pacific’s bench stepped up when needed with Webb Alano and Louis Rectitud taking over the spotlight while JTM continued to struggle on offense to remain behind, 22-39.
In the fourth and final quarter, JTM were finally rewarded for their never-say-die spirit. Their man-to-man defense caused chaos as Win Pacific started to falter with miscommunication and turnovers, which gave JTM the chance to pull a huge comeback. Kyrell Caraig, who had not made a single point, suddenly got into rhythm with three crucial buckets while Carl Sanchez brought the distance within a single digit from the charity line.
JTM fought vigorously and successfully reduced the deficit, but in the end, Win Pacific’s six points was enough to seal the deal, 45-44.
The player of the game was Matthew Peters (not Betters as earlier reported) with 10 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 steals.
