Yong Man beats Wabol in COP’s Blue Tee Challenge

Wabol holds this year’s title in HANMI Charity Classic Championship last April 5 and the San Roque Tournament early this month, Park beat Wabol to win this year’s Northern Marianas College Fundraiser Tournament, and Taguchi the St. Jude Golf Tournament last May 25.

The Blue Tee Challenge was held last Saturday in celebration of the Coral Ocean Point’s 20th Anniversary, according to Palik Thomson.

In this tournament he said the golfer tees right from the farthest point of the tee box.

At the COP golf course which was designed by PGA Hall of Famer Larry Nelson, it was 415 yards to the hole No. 1 compared to the regular distances of 395, 382 and 377 yards. So the Blue Tee Challenge participants tees off from a total of 7,156 yards of the entire 18-hole course.

Another exciting part of the tournament, Thomson said is that it is open to both professionals and amateur golfers.

Yong Man birdied in the hole No. 9 to go 1-over par 37 in the front nine during the first round. He struggled in the back nine as he bogeyed in the holes No. 17 and 18 to score a gross of 76.

Yong Man gained the upper ground in the second round grossing 74.

Wabol settled for the second place firing 4-over par 76 during the first round and 5-over par 77 in the second round.
