They had a two day competition first being put up against the Chinese Taipei during the first day and then being pegged up against team DPR Korea.
NMIFA has been growing since it started more than 3 years ago. There were 21 faithful participants in the basic referee class that started last weekend. Mr. Ed Salas from the NMIFA proudly told Marianas Variety yesterday that they had a participant from each of the football clubs on the island. “We hope that each will be a help to the various clubs and leagues over the coming year!” exclaimed Mr. Salas.
Some of the the participants were Jershwin Angeles, Marc Mora, Woo Seok Choi, Kenneth Domingo, John Sario, Roding Domingo, Andres Halaby, Hannah Schorr, Jose “Jr” Jacinto, Joven Cruz, Jessica Bigueras, Aldritz Buensalido, Edgardo “Puy” Macario, Don Cabrera, Fradel Sedillo, Merlie Tolentino, Andrew “Kila” Moses, Anna Manibusan, Ruselle Zapanta, and Adam Whitty.
Marianas Variety learned yesterday that the training was comprised of two parts, theory session in the classroom and practical session on the field.
The entire class has completed seven hours of theory session and 3 hours of practical training. These students have already covered all 17 Laws of the Game, and have begun applying those on the field as referees and assistant referees for practice. The final day for training will be on Sunday, August 21, 2010 8-11 AM field training and then 1-4PM at the NMIFA office.
A written test will be administered, and participants will receive certification as Basic Referees under NMIFA. NMIFA will be holding a small ceremony to award these graduates.
At this level, they are training to ref U8-U10 games independently. Some of the participants have years of experience playing football and may qualify to assist at higher levels, based on their ability as officials.
“The trainees are very engaged in the course, asking a lot of questions and participating in the classroom scenarios and discussions. No one has missed a session yet, which indicates they are interested in learning the ropes and doing a good job on the field. I’m proud of them for sticking with our challenging training schedule.” said Catherine Anderson.
Laws of the game are still available for $10 a copy.
