Ralph Yumul who topped the first tryout game last June 27 at the Coral Ocean Point Resort made it to the final slot.
Jess I. Wabol actually shot the lowest gross at the Marianas Country Club last Sunday, firing eve par 36 in the front and three strokes over par 39 in the back but his June 27 gross was too high to beat Yumul’s total gross.
Yumul last Sunday added 77 to his 76 gross during first tryout for a total of 153 while, Wabol 75 gross fell short of offsetting his 81 gross and totaled 156.
Asterio Tawanpiy actually made it to the third place and Yasu Irinaka was also a potential member. However, due to tryouts requirement of U.S. citizenship, they probably can’t make it to the national team.
Filling up their place is Ben Duenas who shot a total of 168 for the two tryouts.
Carl Hocog who placed 7th also moved to fill the fourth slot.
Former Department of Public Works secretary Joe Demapan is placed on standby in case any of the top four is unable to make the trip.
The local organizers led by Jordam Kosam want to thank all the national tryouts supporters who came out and join the group.
The golf nationals’ next step is to coordinate fundraising efforts.
“We will be planning a Golf Tournament to help alleviate travel cost to the Cook Islands,” Kosam said.
