NMI Basketball Federation director and Lady Rollers coach Marlene Lumabi has enrolled in the Fédération Internationale de Basketball’s Oceania’s Rising Coaches Program which started Tuesday via Zoom.
Lumabi, a veteran basketball player, was nominated by the NMIBF to participate in the program which aims to help develop young coaches.
“This program will benefit the CNMI because we are creating future basketball mentors,” Lumabi said.
The program provides participating coaches with professional development opportunities to improve their coaching competence.
This year’s two-month long program will include eight sessions to be held every Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. with theoretical learning and workshops focusing on coaching development.
According to the FIBA website, the program will include world-class players, coaches and industry professionals.
The program has 15 participants from at least nine countries or territories.
“At the end of this workshop, I look forward to developing my coaching style,” Lumabi said. “When we started [Tuesday], the other participating coaches were from Guam, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands, New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa, American Samoa and Tahiti. A lot of information and ideas were shared by the instructors and fellow coaches,” Lumabi added.
