THE MP United Football Club clinched the Flores-Pee Luwal (Intermediate) Division championship of the Dove Women’s League by edging the Southern United Football Club, 1-0, Sunday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

It was truly a title match as both teams played their hearts out with neither able to score in the first half.

The teams stepped up their offense in the second half as the field was filled with several back-and-forth exchanges and close calls.

In the last 15 minutes of the game, MPU finally managed to break down SUFC’s line of defense, allowing Moriah Sablan to score for a 1-0 lead.

Although there was still time left, SUFC failed to equalize and had to settle for defeat.

Other games

The Paire Football Club joined the winner’s circle by outlasting Shirley’s FC, 2-1.

Shirley’s grasped the early advantage with Cassidee Flores connecting the opening goal at the 15th minute mark of the first half. However, Paire heated up later in the second half with Natalie Hill-Beyer and Elizabeth Culp finding the back of the net at the 54th and 58th minute marks, respectively, to seal the deal.

For their part, the Matansa Football Club managed to escape defeat as they forced a draw against Tan Holdings Football Club, 1-1.

Early in the second half, Tan Holdings broke the silence after Maria “Masha” Marphan fired the first goal of the day.

But Matansa equalized at the 59th mark thanks to Justidy Leon Guerrero’s quick shot. With neither team able to connect the game-winning goal, they settled for an anticlimactic draw to end the season.
