THE Northern Mariana Islands Football Association completed the first of four modules of the B Coaching Course today, Tuesday, at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

Christ Villaflor, Russ Zapanta, Ronel Ocanada, Jireh Yobech, Mikky Vargas, Davy Laxa, Chris Aninzo, and Martin Jambor of NMI, along with two participants from Guam, attended the course conducted by main instructor/coach educator Michiteru Mita with support from Asian Football Confederation/Japan Football Association coaches Takeshi Ono and Yasuhiko Kimura.

Module 1 was held from July 6-11. Module 2 will be held on Aug. 8-14; Module 3 on Dec. 6-12; and Module 4 on Jan. 15-21, 2024.

The NMIFA said it focuses on coach training to ensure player development.

It is also important for the NMIFA, an AFC member, to follow AFC standards.

Under the AFC coaching convention established in 2019, a football association must design its coaching course following the criteria of the AFC coach convention and with AFC’s approval.

AFC also sets the coaching license criteria for officials such as head coach, assistant coach, etc.

After the AFC convention was established, the NMIFA applied for AFC’s B coaching convention which resulted in the first-ever B Coaching Course conducted in the NMI.

“This course is a significant undertaking for the NMIFA, as we fully recognize coaching as a critical component of our program,” NMIFA President Jerry Tan said.

“It is through the dedication and commitment of our coaches that we are able to develop players and continue to grow our program,” he added.

“The NMIFA fully supports initiatives and programs that are aimed at providing our coaches with the opportunity to raise their skill level, gain more knowledge and experience, and create a pathway to advanced coaching career and education…. Again, thank you to our valuable partners from the AFC and JFA and to NMIFA technical director and head coach Michiteru Mita for making this first-ever NMIFA B Coaching Diploma Course happen,” Tan said.
