HYEJIN Elliott and Isabel Heras of the NMI placed second in the 2022 Pacific Nations Cup held on Aug. 6 at the National Tennis Centre in Nadovu, Lautoka, Fiji.
The NMI duo came up short in the finals of the singles event against host Fiji.
Elliott was shut down in the first set, losing to Fiji’s Ruby Coffin, 0-6. Although the Elliott stepped up in the second set, Coffin stayed on her toes and maintained efficiency to pull away with the win once more, 6-1, to give Fiji a 1-0 advantage.
Isabel Heras seemed to have a better chance in her singles match against Saoirse Breen but ultimately suffered the same fate.
Heras lost to Breen, 2-6, 2-6, to give Fiji the title.
In the men’s division, the NMI finished fourth after losing to Vanuatu, 1-2.
In the singles event, the NMIs Bobby Cruz triumphed over Fintan Molbaleh, 6-1, 6-0. However, team mate Colin Ramsey fell to Noah Molbaleh, 1-6, 3-6.
In the men’s doubles event, the NMI duo came close but could not deliver, losing to Vanuatu, 5-7, 2-6.
