Ol’Aces trounce Marianas Dental Center in basketball tourney

THE Ol’Aces defeated the Marianas Dental Center 55-30 in the NMI Rollers Basketball Association Men’s Tournament  on Sunday at the Koblerville gym.

The pace was set by the Ol’Aces in the opening half with constant pressure on both ends of the court. On offense, the Ol’Aces’ Coby Santos found his range from behind the arc firing two triples with  team-mates Preston Basa Jeff Castro and Douglas Schmidt providing additional fire power.

On defense, Santos also played a huge role with a handful of rebounds while team-mates Bobby Coldeen and Brandy Onopwy did their part in denying Marianas Dental Center second chance buckets even as the Ol’Aces created a few for themselves to hold a comfortable 28-15 lead by halftime.

Marianas Dental Center gave a good fight at first with Sam Darag and Grant at the frontline, but they could not maintain efficiency during the second half, forcing the rest of their team to step up.

Unfortunately, they could only score 11 points while the Ol’Aces continued to flourish with balanced teamwork en route to a 55-30 victory.

This Friday, the Ol’Aces will be going up against Pacific Auto  for a spot in the final round of the losers’ bracket

GMJ/IKKI(Balabois) 53, Jacob’s Bakeshop & BBQ 45

Joining the battle in the losers’ bracket will be GMJ/IKKI which held down Jacob’s Bakeshop & BBQ.

GMJ/IKKI found their rhythm early in the game as they controlled the board and created second chance buckets. With unselfish teamwork, nearly each player was able to contribute on offense: Chine, Elgene Mangali, Joemar Agustin and Alvin Fundodor.

Despite the efforts of Chris Lilles, Renren Gaviola, DJ Ong and RJ Francisco, Jacob’s Bakeshop & BBQ faced a 21-36 deficit by halftime.

In the second half, GMJ/IKKI’s production slowed down while Jacob’s Bakeshop & BBQ aimed for a rally with James Kintz, Isaac Perez and Keith Santos draining back-to-back shots to cut down the lead.

However, despite their inability to produce steady points, GMJ/IKKI played smartly and used the clock to their advantage to hold onto the lead long enough to win the game, 53-45.

GMJ/IKKI will face Blu Haus on Friday for a spot in the final round of the losers’ bracket.
