PeLeLiu, SUFA advance to softball playoffs

PELELIU and SUFA have advanced to the playoffs of the Belau Amateur Softball League after eliminating their respective opponents at the Dandan baseball field on Sunday.

PeLeLiu’s opponent was Hagu Lamun whose players found their swing in the very first inning with four runs. John, Glen, Openg and Sid highlighted their team’s opening offense with an RBI each.

PeLeLiu did stick close by as its players returned fire at the bottom of the first, carried by Mark’s three-run homer.

Although Hagu Lamun maintained control with three more runs  in the second inning, PeLeLiu answered back  with seven runs, this time with George taking the spotlight with a three-run homer, allowing PeLeLiu to snatch the lead 10-7.

The Hagu Lamun players then stirred up a rally of their own. At the top of the third inning, they managed to squeeze in six runs with Joe leading the assault via an RBI double while PeLeLiu let a few slip past home plate by errors.

The fierce battle continued for the rest of the game but with neither team able to gain a decisive lead. And so it all came down to the seventh and final inning.

Hagu Lamun scored three slick runs, to take the lead, 20-15.  However, PeLeLiu exploded in its final offensive attempt, scoring hit after hit. Ray started the comeback with two RBIs bringing home Mabel and Walt while James followed up with a single to bring home Ray for another RBI single.

John then notched the game-winning single by giving Ben and Manny the opportunity to reach home, snatching the win 21-20, and a spot in the playoffs.

SUFA vs Angkaur

In the other match, SUFA advanced to the playoffs by burying Angkaur in just three innings, 20-0.
