ROUND 1 of the Marianas Racing Association 2023 Points Race Series was highlighted by flawless performances at Cow Town Raceway Park on Sunday.
In the Veterans Class, Dave Celis dominated the six-lap race thanks to his ability to maintain momentum after landing jumps and negotiating tight turns which kept him ahead throughout the dust-filled track. He completed both heats in first place to collect 50 points and secure the top spot.
Celis did have to watch his back as Cuki Alvarez trailed closely behind. Alvarez, however, could not create the opportunity to take over and had to settle for second place in both heats for 44 points.
Melvin Cepeda came in third with 40 points, Charles Cepeda was fourth with 36 and Ray Yumul was fifth with 32.
Expert Class
Although Alvarez fell short in the Veterans Class, he reigned supreme in the Expert Class.
It was a test of endurance and efficiency as the best of the best took on the 12-lap event, but as the dust settled, Alvarez emerged the winner, topping both heats to clinch first place with 50 points.
In second place was his son Shane Alvarez with 44 points followed by Davis Celis in third with 38.
In the battle for fourth place it was Alverick Alvarez who triumphed over Ellery Cruz in the tiebreaker. Both earned 34 points, but Alverick Alvarez finished third in heat 2 while Cruz came in fifth.
Intermediate Class
In the Intermediate Class, Corry Pangelinan notched a 50-point performance to finish first.
Henry Camacho came in second with 42 points, Melvin Cepeda was third with 40, Ethan Yumul was fourth with 38 and Aric Cruz was fifth with 16.
Cuki Alvarez executes a turn as Dave Celis trails closely behind during round 1 of the 2023 MRA Points Race Series at the Cowtown Raceway Park on Sunday.
