POHNPEI and Shots Fired reigned supreme in their respective 3×3 divisions of the 2023 NMI-Pohnpei Goodwill Basketball Games which concluded Friday at the Ada gym.
In the women’s division, Shots Fired bested 4 Locals, 16-13.
It was an exciting game as both teams exchanged leads throughout the first five minutes. Shots Fired’s Destiny Pangelinan led her team’s onslaught with 12 points while 4 Locals answered with teamwork as Raenna Ramarui and Kina Rangamar ignited the team’s momentum before Cassandra Camacho took over the rest of the show.
However, 4 Locals lacked the firepower needed to seize the lead. For her part, Shots Fired’s Michelle Kautz grabbed several second-chance buckets while Pangelinan continued to deliver at the rim to secure the win for her team, 16-13.
Men’s division
In the men’s division, Pohnpei 1 dominated the Pacemakers, 21-7.
Pohnpei 1 had the height advantage and a variety of shot options. Glen Torres, Connor Boylan, Shawn Aguon and Holden Ioanis moved the ball well with finishes from beyond the arc and inside the paint to gain the early lead.
The Pacemakers tried to fight back with Coby Santos and Greg Sablan at the frontline. But Pohnpei 1 could not be stopped and they eventually widened their lead en route to victory, 21-7.
