Queens of Diamonds slip past Kosebakl 5-4

THE Queens of Diamonds remain the top team in the ladies division of the 2022 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball League after edging Kosebakl, 5-4, Sunday at the Dandan baseball field.

The Queens drew first blood in the opening inning after Kosebakl failed to hold onto the ball, allowing the first at bat, Kiana Aldan, to record a triple and then steal home for a 1-0 lead. Kosebakl then made up for their defensive lapse with three quick outs highlighted by a double-play.

In the second inning, Kosebakl allowed only one hit while Shine Matsutaro earned an RBI single to even the score, 1-1.

While the Queens continued to struggle, Kosebakl took over with two runs in the bottom of the third and one more in the fourth for a 4-1 advantage.

Kosebakl seemed to have the win in the palm of their hands, but in the top of the sixth inning, the Queens’ Kiana Aldan hit a clutch three-run homer to even the score 4-4.

Then in the top of the seventh and final inning, team mate Sylvina Simram’s sacrifice fly brought in Thelma Mizer to give the Queens the lead, 5-4.

Kosebakl tried to stay alive but the Queens defended well to ensure victory.
