SIS dominates debut of Girls 4v4 Middle School Grass Volleyball

SAIPAN International School 1 is off to a strong start with a 6-0 record in the Public School System Girls 4v4 Middle School Grass Volleyball League which opened Monday at the CPA Airport field.

The Geckos notched their first win against Chacha Middle School, 21-11.

Euanne Kyra Claveria, Martha Culp, Hoo Wang, Savita Sikkel and Hannah Lim filled the SIS 1 roster, and their chemistry was their biggest asset as they worked their way around each attack and forced Chacha to commit  errors.

Although Chacha managed to put up a fight, SIS 1 played it safe and steady to eventually clinch the win.

SIS 1’s toughest opponent was Hopwood Middle School as their match came down to the last few possessions, but the Geckos outlasted the Hilitais, 21-17.

The Geckos then scored their third win by overwhelming Dandan Middle School 2, 21-7.

SIS 1 likewise dominated Grace Christian Academy 1, 21-10; Tanapag Middle School, 21-10; and  sister team SIS 2, 21-11.

Not too shabby

Except for the loss against SIS 1, Hopwood Middle School played superbly.

In their game against DMS 2, the teamwork of Hilitais Rizza Relucio, Elisha Henzon, Jiliana Magtalas, Direnalyn Castro, Kialeen Leemarvin and Angielysha Punzalan was impeccable as they barely gave the Tottots room to breathe.

Right from the start, the Hilitais established control, leaving the Tottots speechless.

The players of DMS 2 gave it their all, but without accuracy and control, they could not prevent Hopwood from coasting to victory, 21-8.

Hopwood also trounced Francisco Mendiola Sablan Middle School 1, 21-11. Although FMS’ Zoe Lee, Jane Elias and Althea Surima gave a good fight, it was not enough to stop Hopwood’s never-ending assault.

Against Chacha, Hopwood was merciless, winning 21-3, before besting Agape Christian School, 21-11; and SIS 2, 21-11 for a 5-1 win-loss record.
