GRACE Christian Academy and Saipan International School 1 bagged their first victories in the 2021-2022 PSS Girls High School Volleyball Tournament at the Marianas High School gym on Tuesday.
GCA, which has always been one of the island’s elite volleyball teams, outplayed Mount Carmel School 25-12, 25-11.
GCA’s experienced players Karina Dilse, Katriel Saures and Hye Jin Elliot controlled the offensive play. Utilizing all three touches to set up the kill, they gained a considerable lead early in the game.
MCS never gave up and was rewarded with a handful of successful exchanges thanks to Gayle Vidal, Mia Abuan and the rest of the Knights. But with more misses than hits made, they eventually conceded the first set to the Eagles, 12-25.
In the second set, MCS tried to turn the tide, but as soon as the Knights lost their rhythm, the GCA Eagles took over once again.
Saures and Elliot delivered spike finishers to seal the win for GCA, 25-11.
SIS 1 vs MHS 2
Against Marianas High School 2, Saipan International School 1 Geckos managed to hold their ground long enough to triumph 25-19, 25-19.
It was a fairly even match in the beginning with neither team able to gain the upper hand.
The SIS Geckos were led by Kaithlyn Chavez, Tiana Cabrera and Savita Sikkel while the MHS Dolphins had Angellyn Roligat, Seiyul Hong.
However, the Geckos’ ability to set up plays was their biggest asset as they worked through the crucial moments to secure the win.
