Softball: Man Amigos bag 4th win

THE MAN Amigos remain the top team of the Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball League 2022 after defeating  the Ngaraard Redmen, 9-3, Sunday at the Dandan baseball field. It was the Man Amigos’ fourth straight victory.

After a scoreless first inning, the Redmen broke the silence in the second inning. The Man Amigos quickly grabbed two outs, but the Redmen’s Tony Pangelinan managed to keep his team’s hope alive with a line drive triple which allowed him to reach home without a sweat thanks to John Tomokane’s single and an RBI.

But the Man Amigos retaliated with a solo run highlighted by Jeff Cabrera’s RBI single, bringing in Pete Sablan, to even the score.

Momentum continued to lean toward the Man Amigos’ favor as they added two more runs in the bottom of the third for a 3-1 lead.

In the top of the sixth, the Redmen scored two runs, but the Man Amigos replied with six runs courtesy of Mark Toves and James Flemming who cleared all four bases to hand Ken Kalen two RBIs. Team mates Eric Palacios and Pete Sablan, for their part, contributed two-run homers each for a 9-3 lead.

In the seventh inning, the Redmen had one last chance to get back in the game, but their hopes were quickly shot down as the Man Amigos shined defensively with three consecutive outs that included a 6-3 double-play to end the game and secure the win.
