THE Man Amigos remain undefeated in the 2022 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball League 2022 after edging Asahi, 8-7, Sunday at the Dandan baseball field.
Both teams played as equals as they showcased their defensive efforts, allowing no runs in the first two innings.
Then in the top of the third, the Man Amigos finally broke the silence with James Flemming’s two-RBI single that brought in Derron Flores and Vinny Sablan. Fleming also scored after Eric Palacios sent the ball way out, recording a two-run homer to expand their lead, 4-0.
Despite turning over the fourth inning quickly, the Man Amigos solidified control with three more runs made in the top of the fifth thanks to Palacios’s two-RBI triple. He reached home base himself due to an Asahi error.
Asahi’s will to fight was finally rewarded in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs to cut their opponents’ lead.
Asahi’s momentum continued to burn as they didn’t allow the Man Amigos to move forward in the top of the sixth while adding four more runs courtesy of Dominic Hideo’s three-run homer and Aidrian Dikito’s RBI double to even the score, 7-7, with only one inning left to play.
In the final inning, the Man Amigos’s Kent Kalen capitalized on an Asahi error and slipped past home to give his team a one-point lead.
Asahi had one last chance to grab the win but they failed to connect a hit while the Man Amigos snagged three consecutive outs to secure victory, 8-7.
