TAGA Hoops, led by Kultura Basketball Academy under Kultura Athletics, will begin their four-month program this Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Agape Christian School gym.
The program, led by NMI National Coach and Development Officer Elias Rangamar, uses basketball activities and games to provide fun and enjoyable learning and participation experiences for young people 6-12 years of age.
With the help of current and former NMI national players, the program will begin this Saturday and every Saturday after that for four months, ending on Nov. 25. The program will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 10:15 a.m. for the 6-9 age group followed by another session from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. for the 10-12 age group.
The program fee is $45 per month.
The program will feature 16 total sessions covering fundamental motor skills and game skills highlighted by 3×3 competitions, awards and T-shirts for all participants.
Camp instruction will include ball handling, shooting, offense, defense, fundamental movements and games.
Taga Hoops is designed for school, community and club players. “Our philosophy is to give children the opportunity to play a game that is appropriately suited to the development of their mental, physical and basketball skills.”
The camp will culminate with some 3×3 competition and a thanksgiving “jamfest.”
A new voyage
In his testimonial and endorsement, professional basketball player Jerico Cruz said:
“It is with immense pride and gratitude that I write this testimonial for Coach Elias Rangamar, a man whose commitment to basketball is surpassed only by his dedication to nurturing and guiding his players. Having had the honor of being coached by him for more than a decade, I have personally witnessed the enchantment he brings to the court. I not only honed my abilities as a player but also grew as an individual under his guidance. With him at the forefront, representing the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands national team was an experience I will never forget.
“His strategies, game plans, and insights were always ahead of the curve, putting our team in the best possible position to succeed. Beyond the Xs and Os, Coach Elias Rangamar is distinguished by his ability to inspire and mentor. He has an innate ability to comprehend the assets and weaknesses of each player on and off the court. His counsel shaped my character by teaching me the importance of discipline, collaboration, and perseverance.
“Now that he is embarking on a new voyage with his basketball academy, I do not doubt that countless young players will reap the benefits of his vast experience and wisdom. His unwavering devotion to instructing and lifelong passion for basketball will undoubtedly make his academy a beacon for aspiring players. Coach Elias Rangamar is not only an exceptional basketball coach but also an exceptional mentor and a genuine steward of the game. I am incredibly appreciative of the years I spent under his tutelage and am confident that his legacy will continue to radiate brightly in the basketball world.”
