TANAPAG clinched their first win in the U18 boys division of the 2022 Marianas Village Pride Basketball League after rallying past Dandan, 62-35, at the TSL Sports Complex on Saturday.
Despite the double-digit victory, Tanapag did not have it easy from the start. It was Dandan that dominated early in the opening half with Sam Tengco and Kenny Laquian finding the bottom of the net with a triple each while Marl Balignsay and Aiden Suba adding two points each for a 10-3 lead after four minutes of play.
Despite the strong start, Dandan’s productivity slowed down as Tanapag started to heat up.
Tanapag’s Frank Satur acted as the spark plug with five consecutive points, including an and-one play, with team mate Gino Asallo delivering three buckets from beyond the arc.
Dandan kept the fight going, but Tanapag was on a roll and led 29-17 by halftime.
In the second half, Dandan had to rely on Laquian and Suba’s ability to finish at the rim, but Tanapag had more firepower with Merrick Toves joining Satur and Asallo in a scoring spree en route to a blowout victory, 62-35.
San Vicente vs San Jose
Also joining the winner’s circle was San Vicente which defeated San Jose, 45-28, in the women’s open division.
Keisha Delon Guerrero was the key to San Vicente’s dominance. As soon as she found her rhythm, she never cooled down, scoring 20 points that included four three-pointers to give her team a 28-17 halftime lead.
While San Jose struggled to penetrate due to San Vicente’s defensive height, Deleon Guerrero continued the onslaught with 11 more points, including three triples, to seal the deal, 45-28.
