TASI to Table now has clubs on Tinian and Rota.
On Tinian, the program is supported by the Tinian Municipal Council, the Department of Lands & Natural Resources led by Secretary Anthony Benavente, the Torres-Palacios administration and the Public School System.
Twelve Tinian Jr./Sr. High School students are participating in the TTT pilot program for the next four months.
The program included a presentation on environmental awareness as well as mental health and how to deal with stress and anxiety.
Among the presenters were Micronesia Islands Nature Alliance’s Jolly Ann Cruz who shared MINA’s vision and the work they do for the CNMI.
For his part, TTT vice president Wayne Pangelinan conducted an exercise of entanglement in which participating students imagined what it was like for marine animals to be tangled up in fishing lines and plastics bags.
Enissa Dela Cruz of Tinian Jr./Sr. High School said she joined TTT “because I’ve always been surrounded by boys who love to fish. It just really caught my attention and I want to learn and be a part of that.”
On Rota, the launching of a TTT club also included presentations from MINA, the Department of Public Safety-Boating Division, the Western Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Council and Tasi to Table Inc.
WesPac’s CNMI coordinator, Floyd Masga, talked about the council’s career-building opportunities in fishery management that include a summer high school class and a scholarship program.
The opening of Rota’s TTT youth club could not be possible without the support of Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios, TTT said.
Tasi to Table is also grateful to the Department of Lands & Natural Resources, Rota’s mayor and municipal council as well as various private sector companies and non-government groups.
TTT said it has more plans in the near future including a shallow bottom tournament for students this Saturday at Smiling Cove Marina, a mini-derby for students on Saipan in June, and rod & reel presentations on Rota and Tinian.
Tinian Jr/Sr High School students participate in a Public School System mental health presentation conducted by Walter Mendez with Vannah Hocog and Frank Borja.
