TOKAHAO powered past Peleliu, 13-7, Sunday, in the 2022 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball League at the Dandan baseball field.
But Tokahao did not have a smooth ride to victory as it was Peleliu who held control early in the game.
Although Tokahao was first at bat, they made one run only in the first inning while Peleliu found their rhythm with consecutive hits, highlighted by Cartfield Sablan’s two-RBI double to grasp the lead, 2-1.
Tokahao snagged their first strikeout but Peleliu resumed their assault with Alvin Salas’ sacrifice play to bring home a run for an RBI followed by two more runs to extend their lead, 6-0.
Tokahao’s defensive efforts finally paid off as they shut down Peleliu’s offense while scoring four runs in the second inning thanks to Bruce Norita, Larry Deleon Guerrero, George David and Dave Attao who earned an RBI each and cut their opponents’ lead, 5-6.
Peleliu failed to get out of the gutter for nearly the remainder of the game as they were scoreless in the next four innings.
Tokahao, for their part, squeezed in a solo run in the top of the third and then took over the driver’s seat by the end of the fifth with five runs, highlighted by Norita’s three-run homer, for a comfortable 11-6 lead.
Their lead continued to grow as they bagged two more runs in the top of the six. Peleliu finally scored a run, but it was too little, too late as Tokahao secured the win with three consecutive outs to end the game, 13-7.
Hagu Lamun vs Momma Charu
Hagu Lamun defeated Momma Charu, 13-8.
Hagu Lamun performed steadily, scoring a run in six of the seven innings.
Momma Charu had a slow start before notching five runs in the bottom of the sixth. However, they failed to keep the momentum burning as they were quickly shot down with three quick outs in the seventh and final inning, and had to settle for defeat, 8-13.
