TONY Benavente topped the Saipan Golf Association’s October Ace of the Month tournament on Oct. 23, 2022 at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort east course.
Benavente showcased a steady swing throughout the tournament as he shot a gross of 38 on the front nine and improved on the back with a gross of 35 for a total gross score of 73. With a 6 handicap, his net score was 67 which gave him the October Ace title.
In second place was Rick Kautz who shot a gross of 39 on the front nine and 40 on the back for a total gross of 79. His 11 handicap allowed him to settle for second place with a net score of 68.
In the battle for third, Joe Sablan bested Frances Sablan in the tiebreaker.
He and Frances Sablan shared a net score of 75. But Joe Sablan had the slight advantage in the scorecard playoff, shooting a gross of 50 and 48 on the front nine and back for a total gross score of 98. With a handicap of 23, his net score was 75.
Frances Sablan shot a gross of 51 and 52 for a total gross of 103 which, with a 28 handicap, gave her a net score of 75.
In the side events, the Closest to the Pin winners were Ed Manibusan for holes #4 and #6; Rick Kautz, hole #11; and Alex Tudela, hole #15.
For the Longest Drive, Nick Sablan ruled hole #3 while Tony Benavente reigned on hole #18.
Besides Tony Benavente, SGA’s other 2022 aces of the month, so far, include Edward C. Sablan (January), Frances M. Sablan (February), Nick C. Sablan (March), Larry I. Deleon Guerrero (April), Alex Tudela (May), Mariano Fajardo (June), Rick Kautz (July), Das Krishnan (August) and Ed Manibusan (September).
The 2022 Ace of Aces tournament will be held in January.
