Top finishers in Turkey Trot bring home turkey

ASIDE from Northern Marianas Athletics’ Mt. Tapochao Turkey Trot 2022 top overall finishers Keith Ketola and Kate Leugers, several other runners shared the spotlight and went home with a turkey for finishing first in their respective age groups on Thursday.

In the 12-and-under age group, Quido Jambor led the men’s division by completing the 4.2-mile uphill race with a time of 57’23.88 while Kaylen Taflinger topped the women’s division with a time of 58’37.57.

In the U17 group, Ruizhe Zhu finished first in the men’s with a time of 44’18.26 while Addelee Taflinger topped the women’s with a time of 51’04.52.

Keith Longuski (39’07.97) and Denise Myers (48’07.53) led the 30-39 age group; Travis Spaeth (55’50.58) and Rosemarie Chisato (54’29.61) led the 40-49 age group; Matthew Furan (53’37.32) and Kimiko McKagan (56’18.78) led the 50-59 age group; and Chong Nam (53’29.55) and Karen Buettner (01:26’29.12) led the 60-and-over age group.

Each top finisher was rewarded with a free turkey for Thanksgiving.

Biggest number

NMA’s annual Turkey Trot is held annually, but in the last two years it was held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

 This year showed how much runners missed the in-person race as it marked the event’s biggest number of participants yet — a total of 175.
