I am disturbed that a local lawyer is helping some foreigners apply for asylum.
From what I know, the asylum treaty is for displaced people, or those who fled their country, fearing that they will be killed or jailed by their own government because of their political or religious beliefs. Those who have endangered or risked their lives in providing vital information to the U.S. are also entitled to get asylum.
I would like to ask our leaders, especially acting Labor and Immigration Secretary Jack A. Tenorio and Rep. Herman T. Palacios, to please review the status of these 500 aliens applying for asylum.
Aren’t they supposed to be here to be employed, and not because their lives are threatened by their own government?
What will happen to our local people if all these foreigners get asylum? We are already outnumbered by the more than 30,000 alien workers. This is why every time we check for a job at the private sector we can’t be hired. We can’t find work in our own commonwealth!
I hope our leaders will do something about this issue, before it’s too late. Please think about our young generation.
I support Chairman Palacios’s warrantless arrest proposal. We need to protect our commonwealth. We also need to prevent “sham” marriages between foreigners and U.S. citizens.
